Bentek’s Power Economizer Integrated Into RSS Reduces Power Consumption by 50 percent

SAN JOSE, CA ― May 2015 Bentek, a manufacturer of a broad range of OEM power distribution products for the residential, commercial and utility-scale solar PV marketplaces, has succesfully integrated the Bentek proprietary Power Economizer into the Bentek Residential Rapid Shutdown System (RSS) .

“The Power Economizer is a Bentek proprietary designed printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), and when integrated into the Bentek RSM, reduces power consumption by more than 50 percent,” said John H. Buckley, Executive of Sales and Marketing at Bentek. “As the Bentek RSS continues to gain customer acceptence and more southern states adopt and enforce NEC 2014 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements, Bentek is seeing customers benefit from the Power Economizer when temperatures soar on residential rooftops. The Bentek Power Economizer integrated into the RSS ensures our customers that the Bentek RSM can be installed in this type of environment and function properly.”

The Bentek RSS is a cost-effective and easy-to-install universal stand-alone solution that has been tested and approved by some of the largest residential string inverter manufactures and installers in the world. It includes two components: The Rapid Shutdown Controller (RSC) installed at the service entrance and the Rapid Shutdown Module (RSM) installed on the residential roof top within 10 ft of the PV array.

Inverter racking helps meet NEC Requirements

NEC 2014 section 690.12 requires that inverters must be installed within 10 ft of the solar array to meet rapid shutdown requirements. Inverters must also be elevated to meet new fire safety codes. The easiest way to achieve this is to mount inverters on racking, but since manufacturing these isn’t in the realm of most inverter manufacturers’ specialties, third-party companies are stepping up to offer a standard solution.
For example, Bentek offers the PowerRack, an inverter rack that comes in steel or aluminum and works with most three-phase inverters including models from ABB, Advanced Energy, Chint Power Systems, Fronius, Schneider Electric, SMA America, SolarEdge, Solectria Renewables and SunGrow. Bentek’s Residential Rapid Shutdown System Gaining Customer Acceptance

Bentek continues to see the Bentek Residential Rapid Shutdown System (RSS) gaining customer acceptance where NEC 2014 690.12 is being enforced.

Todd Druskat of E2 Solar Inc. commented, “We chose Bentek’s RSS for it’s simplicity in design and cost effectiveness.  The product is labeled as a Rapid Shutdown Solution, with two and three string options. Using simple language like this makes it easier for your average solar company to spec and order. The product is very well built and the low profile of the RSM allows it to fit underneath panels, where some competitors’ products sit too high to do that. The whips that extend out of the RSM make connections with the strings very easy.”

John H. Buckley, Executive of Sales and Marketing at Bentek commented, “As more states continue to adopt and enforce the NEC 2014 Rapid Shutdown code requirement, Bentek continues to see a fast adoption rate of the Bentek RSS. We are pleased to see companies like E2 Solar Inc. appreciate the simplicity and cost effectiveness of the RSS design. The RSS is a universal Rapid Shutdown product that has been tested and approved by some of the largest residential string inverter manufacturers and installers in the world.”
